GOOD
QUESTIONS.
How do I request officials?
Complete the Request Officials form with your sport, location, dates, schedule, and anticipated officiating needs. ASO will review your request and follow up about coverage and next steps. Request as early as possible. If your schedule is approaching quickly, we can still review the available options.
Does a request guarantee coverage?
No. Submitting a request starts the coverage process. Availability depends on the sport, location, dates, game times, number of games, crew requirements, and available officials. ASO reviews your needs before confirming coverage.
How much does officiating coverage cost?
Pricing depends on the specific needs of your program or event, including the sport, schedule, location, number of games, and officiating requirements. Contact ASO with your program details to discuss coverage and pricing.
What sports and areas does ASO cover?
ASO currently focuses on basketball, volleyball, and youth flag football. North and Northwest Georgia is our primary service area, but it is not a hard boundary. Have another sport or a program elsewhere? Send the details so we can review your needs and availability.
Do I need experience to become an official?
Not necessarily. ASO welcomes both new and experienced officials. Prior experience isn’t required for every opportunity. We look for dependable, professional, coachable people who are willing to learn and committed to development.
What happens after I express interest?
ASO reviews your information and communicates the appropriate next steps. Depending on the sport and opportunity, these may include registration, training, development, screening, and preparation for potential assignments. Applicable youth-safety background screening may be required.
What training is available? Are assignments guaranteed?
Development varies by sport and opportunity and may include fundamentals, rules, positioning, signals and whistle technique, communication, partner mechanics, game management, and hands-on instruction. Training does not guarantee assignments. Opportunities depend on readiness, professionalism, reliability, availability, scheduling needs, and game requirements.
